How this site makes money

This page is the complete disclosure. It is linked from every page in the footer and from every location where an affiliate link appears.

The short version

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and become a merchant with that provider, this site may receive a payment. That payment comes from the provider's marketing budget, not from you — the rate you are offered should be the same either way, but you should verify that yourself rather than take my word for it.

No provider has paid for placement, reviewed this content before publication, or has any editorial control over it. No provider has been given the right to approve or request changes to any page.

Current affiliate relationships

This section is maintained as relationships change. Absence of a provider from this list means there is no affiliate relationship — it does not mean the provider was excluded.

ProviderRelationshipWhere it appears
No affiliate relationships are currently active. When one becomes active, it will be listed here, on the day it becomes active, with the pages it affects.

What that means for the advice

There is a real conflict here and it is worth stating plainly rather than dismissing: this site earns money when readers switch processors. That creates an incentive to recommend switching.

Three things offset it, and you can check all three:

  1. The calculator computes against its own interest. It reports the average ticket below which switching costs you money, using your inputs. On the default settings that threshold is around $9 — which means the tool tells a meaningful share of its own visitors not to switch.
  2. The break-even is arithmetic, not opinion. You can verify it by hand: multiply the per-transaction fee by the number of transactions, divide by volume. If the site's numbers disagree with your own arithmetic, the site is wrong.
  3. Free alternatives are named where they exist. Where a provider has no affiliate programme because it charges no fees, it is still mentioned if it is a reasonable option. A provider that gives nothing to this site is not thereby excluded from the comparison.

What is not for sale

If you ever see content here that appears to violate any of the above, that is worth reporting — see the contact page.

Other revenue

This site may display advertising. Advertising is not targeted based on the calculator inputs you type, which are processed entirely in your browser and never transmitted — see the privacy page for the detail.
